iSelf – contemporary perspectives / autumn-winter 2015
„johannes de eyck fuit hic“ when giovanni arnolfini and giovanna cenami said in 1434 “i do” the painter jan van eyck witnessed this alliance with these words and a famous self portrait in the form of his reflection in the mirror. in 2002 the word “selfie” came up for the first time, but the need to present yourself in a proper light is timeless. while one damns the selfies as flirty or trivial, others see in them the ultimate proof of their own existence – picture or you didn’t happen!
