sometimes, things just take a little longer… we had the idea for this shoot over 10 years ago and even reached out to erwin wurm at the time, who, to our surprise, gave his approval. back then, however, there was only a single fat car in austria, located in the sculpture park near graz. unfortunately, the logistical effort surrounding the shoot proved too extensive, the idea seemed to fall apart, and eventually, it faded into the background.
that is, until last year, when the retrospective celebrating erwin wurm’s 70th birthday opened at the albertina modern! once again, we were lucky to get permission for the shoot, thanks to the incredibly accommodating press department at the albertina, led by dr. benyes.
finally, we could get started: organizing the right historical images, securing the necessary rights, and aligning our outfits with the corresponding poses. after two test shoots to fine-tune camera position and lighting, it was time for andrea striok, our model, to step in, becoming one minute sculpture herself, captured in the frame by exhibition visitors (pic by albert pappenheim)
